This stunning specimen, awash in hues of blue and purple, secretes a deep indigo "milk" or latex when sliced or cracked open. This trait of producing a 'bleeding' effect is shared amongst all mushrooms within the Lactarius genus. The Indigo milk cap can be discovered nestled within the coniferous and decidicous woodlands of Eastern North America, East Asia, and Central America. As a rule of thumb, the deeper the blue of its body, the fresher the specimen.
